There have certainly been a plethora of angry, upsetting, heart-wrenching, and brow-raising stories in the news and on the interwebs lately, so I thought now would be a great time to introduce my first blog serial: Friday Favorites!
Every Friday I’ll post a list of the funniest, sweetest, happiest, and most awesome stories I see throughout the week. I hope it will help us all to remember just how bright the future looks, despite some of the other things going on in our world. And if you’re like me and still reeling from the Falcons’ loss on Sunday, you’ll need some extra help getting happy this week!
Here are my Friday Favorites for this week:
1. This Mr. Clean ad that aired during the Super Bowl
Y’all. Husbands who clean are sexy.
2. Netflix being its awesome self
This week, Netflix officially announced the return date for Orange is the New Black will be June 9–my birthday! We’ve all been dying to know what happens with our favorite prison ladies since last June, so this was much-needed good news!
3. Pam was un-banned from Chili’s.
For those of you who don’t know, The Office is my very favorite show. I am a very guilty Netflix binger, so I’ve seen every episode far too many times. In fact, the only reason I started my Instagram was so I could follow Jenna Fischer and the other Office cast members. When I saw this in my feed, I couldn’t help but smile.
4. Lady Gaga’s Super Bowl Halftime performance
I have been a fan of Lady Gaga since my high school days when she was wearing meat dresses and being carried around in giant eggs. I’ve just always really admired her individuality and how she doesn’t seem to care what anyone thinks about her. This halftime show was honestly one of the best performances I’ve ever seen. She did not lip sync, she didn’t need any “surprise guests,” and she jumped from the freaking roof of the stadium. Her performance was an amazing display of talent, personality, and athleticism.
5. Carol Freaking Burnett
It was announced this week that Carol Burnett (comedic goddess) will be making a return to the small screen in an ABC show executive-produced by Amy Poehler (comedic goddess #2). I literally do not even care what the show is about or who else is in it. It could star Keanu Reeves and be about a refrigeration repair company, and those two amazing ladies would still find a way to make it hilarious. If you aren’t familiar with Carol Burnett, please watch this clip from The Carol Burnett Show where she and the rest of the cast parody my favorite movie Gone With the Wind.
*BONUS* Here’s your bonus Friday Favorite: a picture of my cat being adorable. You’re welcome.
I hope at least one of these things can make you guys smile a little bit and forget the real world for just a moment. Let me know in the comments what other good news or smile-worthy things happened this week!
